Office of Rail Regulation
The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) is the independent safety and economic regulator for the UK's railways. The department employs around 300 staff across the country and is led by a board which is appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport.
On 5th November 1993 the Railways Act created the Rail Regulator, this in turn was replaced by ORR on 5th July 2004, and as of the 1st April 2006 ORR assumed the responsbilities as a combined safety and econmic regulator, all based upon the Government's '2004 White Paper' the "Future of Rail".
Employment conditions including pay are negotiated jointly with Prospect and PCS.
